This week continuing our new series of messages based on the books of the “minor prophets” and today we’re focusing on the books of Nahum, Habakkuk, and Zephaniah. The series is called Finding Jesus in the Rubble. Essentially, each week we’ll be looking at various minor prophets and looking at how, even in the midst of doom and gloom predictions and struggle, there was a message of hope and many signs that pointed to salvation and the arrival of the Messiah in Jesus Christ.

These 3 books offer the following themes, of which, we’re focusing on the last one:

  • There will be a day of sacrifice and punishment
  • There is a wrath coming for those who have wronged God, and in some cases God’s people
  • Repentance is still (and as we know, always) possible
  • Nations are being warned against their behavior, and of what is to come
  • And then finally, an anticipation of hope

Nahum 1:7 NIV The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him
Habakkuk 3:2 NIV – 2 O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
Habakkuk 3:18 NIV 18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Zephaniah 3:17 NIV 17 The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
