Hugh Baugher

February 17, 1949 — March 12, 2026

Hugh “Pappy” James Baugher, age 77, of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by family.

Born on February 17, 1949, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Hugh was a man whose life was defined by dedication, service, and the quiet strength of his hands that built so much for the people he loved.

Hugh graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester before continuing his education at Immaculata University in Immaculata, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.

From 1969 to 1972, Hugh proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, where he fought for our country in Vietnam. He worked in the Intelligence Division specializing in Morse Code, a role that required precision, discipline, and focus. Qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

Hugh was the son of the late Earl Baugher Sr. and Catherine (O’Connor) Baugher. He is survived by his brothers, Earl Baugher Jr. (Connie) of New Mexico and Francis Baugher (Linda) of Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph and his sister Catherine, as well as his brother and sister in-law, R. Allen and Vicki Katherman.

Above all else, Hugh was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Donna Armstrong Baugher, and children: Tammy (Jeff) Ludwig of Florida, Janea Adkins of North Carolina, and J. Bradley Armstrong of Pennsylvania.

He was a proud and loving Pappy to his 12 grandchildren: Brenna, Cayleen, Caden (Madison), Gavin, Zane, Joel Grant Jr., Jack, Riley, Sydney, David “Mac”, Mason, and Madelynn.

Hugh’s life was not measured in titles or possessions. He was simply “Pappy,” whose steady presence made his family feel safe, supported, and loved.

Memorial service to honor Hugh’s life will be held Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Marticville Methodist Church, 641 Marticville Road, Pequea, Pennsylvania 17565.
